Peter Cary

Peter Cary, a reporter and editor for more than 40 years, covers the environment and land use for the Piedmont Journalism Foundation. Cary is a former investigative reporter and editor at U.S. News & World Report, and finished his career there as the managing editor. He had previously worked at newspapers in Colorado, Kentucky, New Jersey, and Miami, Florida. After leaving U.S. News, he did investigative work for various non-profits, including the Center for Public Integrity in Washington, where he co-authored a series about gruesome injuries at the nation’s nuclear bomb facilities and examined the forces behind Trump’s tax bill. His work has won numerous awards, including two first places from the AP Media Editors, two first prizes from the Overseas Press Club, and the Sigma Delta Chi award for Best Magazine Story of the year. Also, under his supervision USNews.com won a National Magazine Award in 2001 for “best magazine website.”

Lynn Medford

Lynn Medford  is currently a freelance editor. She worked at the  Washington Post for 18 years, serving as editor of its magazine for the last six. She also was Post Style editor, deputy Metro editor, and Sunday Arts and Style editor. Following her Post years, she served as co-director of Standards and Practices for Fusion.net, a division of Univision. The rest of her career was spent in various positions at the Miami HeraldBaltimore SunTallahassee Democrat, and Raleigh News & Observer.
